Astrophysicist to address Vice President Pence, National Space Council

University of Colorado Boulder astrophysicist Jack Burns is ready for the United States’ next moon shot. On Tuesday, March. 26, Burns will address Vice President Mike Pence and other members of the National Space Council at a meeting focusing on the challenges and opportunities of sending people back to lunar soil. 

Vice President Pence is convening this meeting, the fifth such gathering of the National Space Council, in Huntsville, Alabama, to address human missions to the moon, Mars and beyond. 

Burns, a professor in CU Boulder’s Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences and Vice President Emeritus for Academic Affairs and Research for the CU system, served from 2016-2017 on the Presidential NASA transition team. He has long championed a return to the moon, arguing that Earth’s only satellite provides an ideal scientific laboratory for understanding the beginnings of our solar system and the cosmos.
