Gardner Statement on Space Force Announcement

February 20, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today released the below statement in response to President Trump signing a directive regarding the Space Force.

“Colorado is proud to support our nation’s military space operations today and into the future,” said Senator Gardner. “I look forward to reviewing the Administration’s proposal for expanded space operation and development. Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs is home to North American Aerospace Defense Command, United States Northern Command, and already houses the Air Force Space Command. Further, Schriever Air Force Base is home to the 50th Space Wing, as well as the Space Innovation and Development Center, the 310th Space Wing, the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center, and the Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense. Colorado is uniquely positioned to support the new Space Force headquarters and it is my hope that the continued expansion of military space operations will ensure the United States maintains its position as the global leader in space.”

Senator Gardner is a strong advocate for Colorado’s aerospace industry. He has fought to bring new space jobs to Colorado, and serves on a key committee with oversight of U.S. space and aerospace policies.
