The Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation (Metro Denver EDC) is an affiliate of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and leads the economic development efforts for the nine-county metro region. The Metro Denver EDC represents nine counties and seventy communities working with economic development professionals at city, county, regional, and state organizations. As the state’s largest privately funded and governed economic development organization, Metro Denver EDC focuses on business attraction and expansion efforts through global business development opportunities and marketing to companies and the talent they wish to hire.

DESCRIPTION

Global Business Development – The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate Attraction will focus on cultivating new economic development prospects while responding to outreach from location advisory consultants and businesses seeking to relocate and expand in Metro Denver. The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate attraction will be adaptable in working new and existing companies across diverse industries based in Colorado, the United States, or abroad.

Partnership – The Metro Denver EDC is supported by a network of economic development professionals working in municipal, county, regional, and state economic development departments. The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate Attraction will focus on collaborating and communicating with these vital partners to support economic development opportunities in the Metro Denver region and Colorado. The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate Attraction will be a go-to for economic development partners, industry associations, and Colorado companies.

Data & Analytics – The Metro Denver EDC does everything based off data. The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate Attraction will leverage economic data to evaluate and communicate opportunities to promote our investments in place, talent, connectivity, and business support to partners, businesses, and investors.

Marketing & Branding – The Senior Director of Economic Development & Corporate Attraction represents the Metro Denver region and the Metro Denver EDC as a brand champion leveraging the work of the marketing team. Metro Denver EDC’s marketing and branding efforts inform how the organization communicates with economic development prospects, partners, and investors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and support business attraction, expansion, and retention opportunities that spur new jobs, capital investment, and community vitality in the Metro Denver region and Colorado.

  • Draft and complete detailed responses to requests for proposals/information in response to competitive economic development projects working individually and as a team to outline the advantages of investing in the Metro Denver region.

  • Work in partnership with local, county, regional, and state economic development organizations to identify, process, and secure economic development opportunities. Promote Metro Denver EDC’s Code of Ethics as a framework of partnership and communication.

  • Serve as a concierge for new and existing companies relocating and expanding in the Metro Denver region. When companies need to navigate economic development issues, the Director of Economic Development will identify opportunities and challenges while working to achieve solutions.

  • Thorough understanding of the proactive and reactive economic development processes and economic development incentives and programs.

  • Schedule, plan, and execute client site visits engaging with economic development organizations, institutions of higher education, industry associations, peer industry leaders, and real estate representatives.

  • Communication and engagement with local, county, regional, and state economic development partners across the Metro Denver region and Colorado.

  • Regular reporting to the Metro Denver EDC Executive Committee and Board of Governors on economic development prospect activity.

  • Engagement with Metro Denver EDC investors as a resource to provide perspectives on trends in economic development prospect activity, workforce, public policy, and community development.

  • Leverage Metro Denver EDC’s industry coalitions (CO Space Coalition, CO Resource Council, CO Investment Services Coalition) to gain industry knowledge, tackle strategic industry priorities, and expand the presence of each industry in the region.

EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5 – 7 years of experience working in an economic development, business development, real estate, or other relevant fields. Must grasp the understanding of economic development, business attraction and expansion, and government structures.

  • Understanding of economic development programs, incentives, financial resources, site selection, and legislation.

  • Competency in using Salesforce or similar systems as a fully integrated CRM for client and project tracking.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience in presenting to groups large and small.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, data and analytics software, and project management systems.

  • Experience dealing with corporate business leaders, government officials, external stakeholder groups, and investors.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to complete economic development projects and strategic initiatives.
